The soothing smell of coffee engulfed her senses as she entered the small yet cozy coffee joint. The warmth was pleasant compared to the bitterness of the wind outside. Serena peered around the room in every nook and cranny searching for the sight of Darien. She wasn't sure whether he would even come, but she had hope. It was disappointing not to see him right away because that would have gotten rid of the knawing sensation in her stomach. With a sigh she sat down at a table for two. She massaged her the temples of her forhead trying to be rid of the headache that still lingered from days before. This time it was not the alcohol. It was anxiety.
For the first time Serena cared about someone, and about losing them. It sounded silly when she really thought about it, but even though she had only just met Darien she liked him a lot. Didn't anyone, even her mind, believe in love at first sight anymore. As much as she did like him Serena was scared for him and herself. If they were ever to be discovered by Gavin or one of the other rebels it would be deadly. She would lose any social status she had obtained in her high school career, and Darien would probably need to get plastic surgery.
Serena tapped her fingers on the table impatiently. She was never good at waiting for anything. Things had always pretty much been fast paced in her life. It was a little early, but she didn't want to miss him or make him feel like she had set him up.
Yesterday had been a painful experience. She had a few classes with Gavin and he had actually shown up to her dismay. Serena had a feeling he had done it just to spite her. The entire time he glared at her and she could sense he wanted to ring her neck. Being as she was, she ignored it which she knew would annoy the hell out of him.
Serena looked at her watch. It was 3:05. Darien was five minutes late. Her stomach did a backflip and she felt and unnatural fear. But as she saw someone else walk in the door it did a few more.

Gavin had waken up rather late today. Around 12 to be exact. He had been drinking the night before and had tried to sleep most of it off. It didn't help that much which is why he found himself in the coffee shop. He came here whenever he had a hangover. Just the smell of the place was enough to make his brain feel better. He walked in to the place and was half way to the counter when he spotted a visibly worried Serena. She had obviously seen him first which was why she looked so worried. But was she more worried or scared. He studied her face from across the room and could tell that she definatly look scared. Gavin slightly shook his head. She shouldn't be scared, she should be annoyed at the sight of him. Unless...
Gavin quickly made he way across the fairly crowded room to where Serena sat. He pulled out the chair opposite her and sat down.
"How nice of you to save me a seat." He said with a smirk and looked around the room. "What time it Romeo supposed to show?" He asked when he turned back to her.

Serena wanted to vomit as he sat down across from her. Especially on his dumbass self. How dare he show up and ruin this for me?! She was more than angry at this point. Serena was absolutely livid. Nothing seemed to go right in her life and now Gavin was becoming another interferance of what she wanted. She was not going to let this happen.
"None of your business. Get away from me!" she said rather loudly hoping the people would notice. That was exactly what she wanted. If he got violent she would go to the manager and soon enough the whole cafe would be trying to get him away from her. But then again, she thought, it would just be easier to yell that he was trying to rape her.

It took Gavin a minute to figure out what she was trying to pull. She'd done it before, in school of all places and got Gavin stuck in some sexist group for 3 weeks. Gavin put his hands into his pockets making sure that anyone who looked at them wouldn't be able to think that he was actually trying to touch her.
"I know what you're doing." He said in a whisper just loud enough that she could hear but no one else could.
"Now, now Serena, I know we got into a little fight but you don't have to yell." This time he spoke loud enough for other to hear. He hated making a scene but he was determined to stay long enough to see this guy. Maybe not to beat him up today but just so he could know who it is and go after him in a place not to public.

Serena groaned in annoyance as she saw the people turn back to whatever they were doing. He could be such an actor sometimes. Now she wished that Darien would just ditch her. She didn't want him getting hurt. But if it came to that she would attack Gavin with all the strength she had in her body.
"What do you want from me? We broke up. End of story." she said bluntly hoping he might leave if she hurt him enough with words. "You just can't let it go."

"Don't flatter yourself, It's not like I was stalking you." He said plainly as he glanced over the small menu on the table. He looked up at her. "And it's not over," He looked back down at the menu. Somethings were too hard to say to her face. "You're just mad at me, you'll get over it." He'd been telling himself the same line for the past few days, when he was sober at least. When he was drunk there wasn't much thinking going on.
Gavin looked at his watch. "Is he late or are you really early?" It was 3:17 and he knew that Serena would have said to meet this guy here at either 3 or 3:30, any time other then that would be weird. No one ever planed to meet someone at 3:18 or some time like that.

As though he was in a foreign country, Darien walked into the coffee shop with an uneasy gaze at the floor. His hands were in jean pockets and his hair was messed up from the wind. Darien didn't exactly like walking, but he knew he had to if he was going to be late. That was the plan. To stall as much as possible. He wasn't the type to enjoy a social gathering.
Darien stood at the door and looked around the room. He spotted her. But the second he saw her he wanted to leave. There was someone else with her. A guy. A guy who looked like...one of her people. Darien gulped and sighed heavily.
Shit...who the hell is he?! he thought with anger and fear. Darien knew he couldn't trust people. She probably brought him here so he could harass Darien. That whole stint in the auditorium was probably a set up. Darien wanted to punch himself for ever believing her. Regardless, he'd probably be in more trouble if he left now. Instead, he sucked it up and walked over to the table where they sat.
He stood at the table and smiled weakly at both of them.

Serena's eyes widened at the sight of Darien. As glad as she was to see him she wanted him to just leave. Gavin had probably been drinking last night which meant his temper would be at its worst. His hair looked so adorable after the harsh wind outside had blown it. She saw him smile at her and she felt her heart melt. This never happened when I was with Gavin... She knew that the love she felt for Darien was real.
She smiled back at him revealing her radiant white teeth. Her parents were obsessed with her dental work so she always had the best teeth. Serena acted as though Gavin wasn't even there. She got up out of her seat and hugged him. She felt so safe in his arms.
"Why don't we go somewhere else, it's a bit crowded." she said as she let go of him.

Within a second Gavin was able to figure out who this kid was. Possibly the lowest class of humans and Serena dared to touch the kid with out knocking him out. Gavin stood a second after Serena did. He was using all of his will to keep his hands at his sides and not punch the kid in the face. How dare he even smile at them.
"A Geek? You left me for a Geek?" He said to Serena without even looking at the kid another second. He was in disbelief more then anger. It was like some kind of sick joke. "You've gotta be kidding me." He said with a disdained laugh.

There was a look of slight disgust on Darien's face. He didn't want to be hugged. Especially not in front of someone who could probably kill him. Wishing to be touched no further, he stepped away from the both of them a little bit to keep his personal space at a good level. If Darien wanted to be hugged or touched by someone, he wanted it to be by someone h liked and trusted. Not someone he feared.
Still, Darien turned a little to face the other guy. He tried not to make any expression but was mad when he was called a geek. Darien knew it was true, but he hated being labeled it. He usually just labeled himself as a normal nobody. The other thing that bothered him was that he mentioned something about being left...Darien was dating no one, so he had no idea where he got that idea. A knot twisted in his stomach as he hoped Serena had not said they were boyfriend and girlfriend.
For his own safety he decided not to say anything, but instead stood there intimidated.

Serena looked into Darien's eyes for some kind of answer of what to do. She saw nothing but a blank expression. She had thought he was going to give her a chance, but she guessed she was wrong. Her heart felt heavy and a lump was emerging in her throat. She looked around the room and felt utterly trapped as though she was inside a dark tunnel with no way out.
Gavin had ruined absolutely everything. She grabbed a half full cup of coffee from the table next to them and threw it in Gavin's face. It has still warm, but not deathly hot.
Serena ran out of the coffee shop in tears leaving both of them with questions unanswered. She was sick of men in general. None of them ever gave a shit about the way she felt. Gavin had been so fast with everything and now Darien wasn't even trying... she was done.

Gavin was caught in shock when the coffee was thrown in his face. He stepped back and grabbed for a napkin. He wasn't even sure if he grabbed it from their table but nevertheless it was just a napkin. He wiped his face off as Serena was heading for the door. There was now a crowd of people around them watching blocking Gavin from being able to get to the door before Serena left. He pushed his way through the crowd making a point to shove Serena's "friend" toward a table, hoping he would fall.
When Gavin finally got to the door and outside he was hit with wind and the cold that hadn't been in the coffee shop. Outside, he calmed himself and looked for Serena. He spotted her a little ways away, she was crying. He walked over to her and stopped right in front of her.
"Stop crying." He said in a low voice. He wasn't angry at the moment and his words were almost a plea rather then a command. He'd done so much yelling at her and let slip so many sarcastic comments that this seem almost out of place but there were rare moments when Gavin actually tried to sound sincere. He wanted to apologize but he knew that saying that would probably just her her angry.

Stumbling over his feet he fell back into the table. He got up in time though before he could hit the floor. He sighed as he watched the two of them leave the coffee shop. Darien stood there for a minute wondering whether he should leave or not. He decided to leave when he noticed everyone in the shop staring at him. Color flooded his face and he made what looked like a run to the door.
The cold air filled his lungs somewhat quickly and his hair was being tossed once more. Near by he saw both of them and hesitated a little bit. It probably wasn't a good idea to go over to them. But Darien couldn't just leave; they'd probably go after him anyway. At least that other guy would. He gulped as he made his way towards them. Unfortunately Darien was not moved by Serena's tears. He was more worried with his own safety. Darien had the strongest feeling he was not going to leave peacefully.
When he stood at Serena's side he looked down at his feet. "Serena, why'd you invite me here if you've got some other guy to be around?" For some reason he felt angry. He was still hoping this wasn't all a big set up.

She felt the lump in her throat more than ever. Serena knew exactly what to say, but she couldn't even get herself to let out a word. It was like one of those dreams where all you wanna do is scream, but you just can't. Hopefully the darkness of a nightmare wouldn't engulf her.
"F*ck off Gavin..."she said under her breath facing him. She then walked toward the direction where Darien was standing. What the hell had she gotten herself into?
"Darien, please." she begged, "It's not like that. He's my ex boyfriend...and... he won't leave me alone. I didn't want to see him I wanted to see you."

Gavin clearly heard her words even though she almost whispered them. His eyes were on the ground as he stood there and took in the words trying to figure out what was going on in her head. While her words were harsh he was able to pick up on her confusion. He'd known her that long that he could tell her tone of voice from just "F*ck you" He really messed this 'meeting' up for her but he didn't care anymore. He looked up from the ground and called after he as she walked to the other guy. No, not guy...Geek.
"I thought you could do better then a geek but I guess I was wrong." He said non-chalantly, hoping to get to both of them with his comment.
