The drive up to the spot on the mountain that had been selected by Miss Laken Rose Cullens was a small drive from school. It was near the middle of the mountain, a nice grassy area. It was almost like a semi-circle created by the trees; woods would be behind the couple as they sat and watched yet another sunset together. Of course dinner would be served from a basket before she pulled out her laptop and put the movie on. Yes, a movie while the sunset after a picnic dinner. Romantic, yes? Too bad the two weren't dating.
During the car ride, it was mostly silent. Laken was nervous. Her light blue two-thousand and six slug bug convertible was filled with music anyway on the drive up. She knew Kyle to be someone to appreciate music almost as much as she did. She was sure it was a mutual thing to not talk over the music they both enjoyed. Besides, she was comfortable enough to not have to talk to him. It was just how they were together.
Finally parking, at the mountain, she stepped out of her car as she turned it off. Taking a lung full of fresh air, Laken looked at Kyle. "Well, we have a bit of a walk ahead of us. Not too far though," she said, smiling, her voice as up beat as she could make it. The butterflies in her stomach were threatening to escape from her mouth. She would be on edge all night, knowing how this would effect the two probably for the rest of their time together as friends.
She went around the back, allowing Kyle time to get out of the car and situate himself. She opened the trunk and pulled out the basket that held the food, her laptop, and the movie they would be watching. Laken came around the side of the car to stand next to Kyle.
Standing there, she looked the one of those models from a magazine. On her body was a thin white cotton dress. It was strapless with a red ribbon wrapped around just under her chest. After the ribbon, the dress went into a loose and flowing A-line, the hem just above her knees.. On her feet were plain white flats with red bows in the center. With her hair curled and bangs over her forehead, she seemed picture perfect for a magazine cover as she smiled at her "date".
[ooc: When I talk about her hair, just look at my avatar; that's what her hair looks like.]

Kyle sat in the staring out into the distance. Looking like he was caught in a long, and drawn out thought, but one reason he was looking out the window was for him to keep himself from blushing, and saying something stupid. He felt weird at the moment. Like words could not form in his throat, but only strange sounds as he choked out the things he would want to say. He really didn't want to talk like that. Laken might have worried that he was sick, then she would end up worrying to death about how she was like 'forcing' him to do this, and Kyle knew that he would never hear the end of it. Though, he would like it if he could never stop talking to Laken. The thought brought a small smile to his face, but Laken couldn't see, he was looking the other way.
What was it about Laken that made Kyle so shy? Kyle was already originally shy, but around Laken, he really couldn't speak, and he didn't know if that was the same for Laken. Just her looks... could take Kyle's breath away. Her hair was just beautiful, and her dress. She looked like she was heaven sent. Silly little pick-up lines. Kyle knew that he would never use them, but he knew that this would be the perfect time for one, but he was keeping his mouth shut. Her looks weren't the only thing keeping Kyle shy.
"So, Kyle, how do you feel about going on our date the day after tomorrow?" Those words... they were forever stuck in his mind. Repeating, and repeating. His breath slowly every time he heard the word date. Why did he feel so strange like this. Like intense feelings coming at him at once, to a point he had no idea what too feel. He looked over to Laken for a second, and looked back with a bit of a sigh. He hoped that the weird feelings that he was holding inside wouldn't mess up today. HE nodded as she said it was a bit of a walk. He felt his feelings getting stronger. Did he really have to be all alone with her. He knew that he would just feel weirder, and weirder. He gave the world a sad expression, but then just went on his Mary-little way.
Kyle got out of the car slowly, and looked around. He was trying to ignore his feelings as he looked around at the scenery. He loved nature so much, and he loved just to make up little personifications for it all. Giving it all lonely feelings. He watched as some leaves flew through the air, and just thought. Why did trees abandoned their leaves after all the help they gave them during the summer. It was a sad world. How people would just use others, then watch them die, without a care in the world.

When he was out of the car, Laken had the urge to take his hand and lead the way through the small bit of woods. She nibbled on the inside of her lip momentarily, wondering if it would be an okay thing to do. It might make him uncomfortable and totally turn him off to her if he didn't want to do that or didn't feel the same way. Things were always more complicated with Kyle than with other boys. When Lukas and her were together, it was easier, both were so outgoing. In her eyes, Kyle was fragile and needed to be taken care of and she had to make sure things she did wouldn't break him.
Sucking in a huge breath, Laken put on her brave face and grabbed Kyle's hand anyway. It wasn't the finger laced together holding, it was the hands cupped hold. If he wanted to change this, he could. She let her grip be loose enough for him to either let go or twist his hand and lace their fingers together. With a small pink tint to her face as she blushed, she smiled at him encouragingly and said, "This way."
Leading Kyle though the small woods should be interesting. She should have planned her outfit a little better. Maybe jeans and a ponytail would have been better. Perhaps shoes that could actually hand a small bit of hiking might have been smart. As they started on the small path, she looked at him and said, "I probably should have picked better shoes." Her voice held humor, an open invitation to poke fun at her if he wished. If he didn't, it was okay with her. It was meant to be true and slightly funny.
The butterflies in her stomach started to go crazy now that they were actually getting closer to the spot they would camp out and spend time together. Why was she so nervous? It wasn't like Kyle was Brad Pitt or anything. Though, thinking about it like that, Laken was positive Kyle was cuter than Brad Pitt any day.

Kyle stared at her seeing a change in her own expression. Just the look brought an unease to him. IT was an eager face, like she wanted to do something, but what? At this moment she could have done anything, but Kyle was unsure what he would do back, he was bad about thinking about his future, when he was always so guilty about his past. So messed up, maybe Laken could be his little guardian angel. She looked like one, and she was helpful like one. He didn't want to think like that. He knew that the more he would be thinking more of Laken the less he could talk,. and then the more she would worry, the redder his face.
Kyle felt a warm, and guiding hand holding his. It gave him huge butterflies, but a curious face. He looked down to their hands. He had always really loved holding hands, being as emo as him lovey dovey things like that was what he liked. feeling loved was all he needed. Feeling close to Laken. Was it all right to be like this? Holding hands all alone on a mountain. His face turned a bright red, and he wouldn't look at Laken, but to the ground, or to there hands. He felt like puking, but sort of in a good way. He knew by these weird feelings, he knew that Laken wasn't just some ordinary friend. But he wasn't sure yet if it was a good thing or a bad thing. As long as Laken was happy, which she sure did seem cheerful, he would be fine.
He followed Laken side by side, trying not to be stubborn. He didn't squeeze her hand or anything, he had his hand loose. He wasn't sure if it was alright to be holding her hand or not, plus he was dying from his anti-social. He had no idea what to do next. It was his first time to ever feel this close to a girl. He took a quick glance up at her face. How could someone so beautiful like her spend time with a worthless guy like him. How could she be holding his hand right now? Kyle had no answers, but maybe things were better off unknown.
As she spoke once again Kyle looked to her shoes, and laughed under his breath, but really you could only see a smile on his face. He had no idea what to say, he just worried that in the end she would get millions of annoying blisters. He wasn't feminine, but he could always hear his mother complaining about how much her feet hurt after wearing those dumb little shoes. But kyle didn't really understand, why would you wear something that hurt you? Isn't that kind of stupid?

As they walked, Laken stole glances back at him, noticing the nice shade of red his face was. She wondered if she'd made him uncomfortable since his hand wasn't exactly holding hers back. On the last glance, she kept her eyes forward and her face turned a little frustrated. He was sure was confusing her and she wasn't a fan of being confused. Though she was sure he couldn't see it, a look of slight annoyance came across her face.
She dropped his hand, letting hers fall to her side, feeling the warmth the two had together leave her palm. Laken wanted to sigh, to let her frustration out but she couldn't. It wasn't something she did and wouldn't do just yet. Kyle would be the most likely to see some negative emotions in her, she was closest to him at the school. Give it time, she told herself. Time is what he needs. Maybe he'll stop confusing me and just tell me what is up.
Highly unlikely. She could hope though, right? "Just a few more feet," she said, making sure to keep her voice light and chipper. She couldn't give away her feeling by her voice. Years of practice helped her voice sound even and calm as they crossed the line from woods to clearing.
It was a cozy clearing, not much bigger than a small bedroom. It would fit the two and their things with a few feet of space to spare. She set down the basket and smiled at him, the frustration laced with her fake happiness in her eyes. "Ta-da!" she said, "This is the place. What do you think?" As Laken waited for his reply, she bent down and started to take out the perfect picnic blanket; it was red and white checkers, just like in all the movies.

Kyle didn't know what to feel as she took her hand back. He didn't understand anything at the moment. What was this? Should he be like hugging all over Laken, no just the thought got the moment Awkward for Kyle, but the hand thing? It wasn't really a normal everyday thing for a girl to place her hand upon his. Was he to just keep quiet and never really talk about and ignore the fact that Laken was thinking of it as a date? Kyle didn't think it would be so good. He could tell that Laken wasn't all that happy about the fact he wasn't as open, but heck! Wouldn't Laken know that? Well... they did just meet each other. Kyle was so mixed up in his thoughts.
Kyle nodded silently to everything she said. He didn't have much talking skills, so bringing up a conversation was hard for him. Plus he felt like he would just end up slipping on his words for the fact he was shaking to the nervous feeling going through his system. He hoped Laken didn't think he was ignoring her, it was the complete opposite, he was listening ass hard as he could, but every word made his heart beat so much faster that he didn't even know he had one anymore, for the fact it was too fast to count.
Following her up to the place he looked around. It was small, and lonely. His stomach felt a twist. Being alone with Laken with her at the state of mind she was at, bleh he felt so awkward at the moment he didn't know what to do, or say, but he had to answer her question, though he wasn't sure if it was the type of question you answered, or just shrugged it off, to keep a thought on mind. Still he couldn't help his words from rolling off the tip of his tongue, "I-it's great." He said it quietly so it sounded very shy and feminine, but then he sighed as he looked at Laken down on the ground looking through a basket, "Y-ya know, you really didn't have to do this much." He said quickly unsure if it was OK to say or what. He felt so weird.
