Shit. She knew she could never tell Gavin who he was now. It was all too embarassing, plus it would give Gavin a good excuse to mess Darien up. Serena would just have to keep referring to him as a mystery man. Even though Darien was labeled a nerd, he was so much more. He was such a sensetive soul full of passion and goodness. He brought a sense of light into her bleak and empty existence.
"Wouldn't you like to know..." she said devilishly with a grin resembling a cheshire cat.

"I would love to know." Gavin said, matching Serena's devious appearance. He was beginning to feel more at ease but at the same time he was trying not to let his guard down. If this was more then just playful banter and she was telling the truth well then he would need a name. Then he would need to meet the face to that name and then that face would be meeting the floor after a brief confrontation with Gavin's fist. He didn't like to mess around and Serena knew that. So maybe a name wouldn't come up but there wasn't much that she could hide from him for long.
"Where did you meet him?" Gavin asked. As soon as the words left his mouth he knew he no longer sound as nonchalant as before. Even thinking that she was telling the truth was getting to him again and he knew that she would be able to tell.

Serena quickly regained her confidence as she noticed her last comment had made Gavin quite nervous and paranoid once more. At this moment he was an open book with his emotions pouring out. For a second she almost felt bad for mocking him so, but then she remembered the day they had broken up.
It had been a warm rainy day in the midst of august. They had broken up before, but this time it seemed final. And for Serena, freeing. They had been arguing the past week. Gavin was getting jealous of Serena's flirting. Words had been said, and then it was over. One thing she remembered especially was smiling as she closed the door of her dorm room.
"The other day in the auditorium." she said smuggly. "What... are you going to check for fingerprints?"

"What were you doing in the auditorium?" Gavin almost snapped at her. His 'outbursts' have been what essentially led to their breakup. As much as he tried to explain it to her she didn't understand or she just wouldn't understand. He couldn't help trying to protect her although she called it paranoid. It was true she didn't need protecting but it was just how he thought. His parents marriage broke up because...well he didn't know exactly but he tried everything to keep him and Serena together which wasn't working so well.

She began to recall the pain of that day. The previous night of partying had brought even her to an all time low. But even so the warmth of Darien and the softness of his lips had made up for it. He may be a geek in everyone elses eyes, but he was Serena's everything. She could not tell where their new found relationship might lead, but she had hope. In a way Serena felt as though they were destined to meet. Like a modern romeo and juliet.
"I wasn't feeling well and I wanted to go some place cool." she said twirling a piece of her strawberry blonde hair around her thin finger.

"I hate to break it to you but the auditorium isn't cool." Gavin retorted even though he knew what she meant by cool. He remembered the party she was talking of well. Okay he didn't remember much but he knew he didn't have that great a time. The majority of the night he spent drinking and taking whatever he could get his hands on just to try and forget. The party had been after the breakup and the only reason why Gavin went was to keep an eye on Serena. Thinking of it now he did realize that he was on the verge of being a stalker but he just couldn't accept that it was over.
"I'm trying really hard not to believe you." He muttered. "I don't want to believe you." He felt totally weak for admitting that but he hoped that she took some pity on him and ended her little game.

Serena's eyes flared with anger as she listened to his first comment. He could be so stupid at times. Another reason, she noted, why she was glad to be rid of him. Gavin was just a burden that she was cursed with and she just wanted him out of her life already. Why did I even bother coming...
"You know what I meant." she spat at him in the most bitter tone she could conjure. Serena wanted to slap him in the face, but she knew he would just be winning this battle if she did. No. She had to get him right in the heart.
"Sometimes you can't get everything you want in life." she responded in a somewhat distant voice.
"But about the auditorium... it sure can be romantic." Serena said in the same dreamy voice.

Gavin just took in her first two comments. He was used to being lectured by her.
"But about the auditorium... it sure can be romantic."
Gavin was on the edge. No he had passed the edge. He stood up almost violently and stood over her.
"You f*cking slut, Who is it?" His voice rose with each word. He knew he couldn't intimidate her but at least she would know he was serious. This guy, if he did exist, was dead. He kept his eyes shaded making sure the only emotion escaping them were pure anger.

Serena felt as though she had been slapped in the face. The dam had finally broken, and everything was pouring out uncontrolably. Who was he to say anything when everything a girl passed he started panting? She was not going to contain her feelings anymore, and she sure had a lot to say.
"I don't have to tell you a thing you bastard!" she shouted. Serena then slapped him across the face with full force hoping to cause great pain. Now she was breathing deep and her heart was going a million miles an hour.
"All I have to say is that he's ten times the guy you'll ever be," she hissed.

Gavin's anger rose even with his futile attempts to calm himself. The slap had barely phased him even though he could feel the red hot welt forming on his face. He was almost at a lose for words. The key word being almost.
"All I have to say is that he's ten times the guy you'll ever be."
"Whore!" He yelled matching her volume. He didn't care if that hurt her. She had hurt him too many times before for him to care. In fact he didn't care about a lot of things at the moment. He didn't care that it was close to 6 in the morning and that half the students were still asleep. He didn't care that they probably weren't supposed to be here that early. And he didn't care that he loved her. He hated her right now.

Serena didn't even take notice to the tears running down her face. One thing she could never take was someone yelling at her intensely. Sure, she could scream her lungs out at people till she lost her voice, but when someone yelled at her the tears always started to flow. She wanted to kill Gavin. She seriously wished him dead. They were not the same thoughts you wished on a silly playground bully in grammar school because you feared getting your lunch money taken, she seriously wished for his existence to be at an end.
"I hate you! You're a worthless nobody and that's all you'll ever be!" she screamed not taking notice to the murmurs of people who were awoken by all the noise.
"No one could ever love you..."

Gavin took full notice of her tears when they started. He hated making her cry in the past but now seeing them felt different to him. They just sparked more anger. How dare she cry? She's the liar. She the one that hurt me. He stood almost dumbfounded at the fact she could even think of crying.
"No one could ever love you..."
The breath caught in Gavin's throat as he heard those words. He had become so numb in the last few minutes of yelling that they didn't effect him at first but giving them time to set in they almost killed him right then and there.
"B*tch, I'll give you something to cry about." He yelled. His mind and his body were now locked in competition. His head was telling him to hit her but his arms wouldn't move instead they dangled at his sides, shaking uncontrollably. "I hate you." His voice was dark, not as loud as before but all the more powerful. He knew he was gonna regret all of this later.

Serena felt stronger now as she saw him dying inside. Maybe now he would leave her alone. Then again, she thought, it could make him want her more. It didn't really matter anymore. She had Darien now. Serena couldn't wait to see him so she could cry on his shoulders and feel his warmth.
"B*tch, I'll give you something to cry about."
She felt utterly paralyzed as she heard those few words. Gavin could hurt her really bad if he wanted, she knew from experience, it had happened in the past. It was one thing about their relationship she would never tell a soul, not even Darien.
Getting her strength back she muttered, "Well at least now we have something in common."

Gavin felt completely numb and closed his eyes for a moment to think but all he could hear were the whispers of the few students that came to see the commotion.
"Go Away!" He yelled at the crowd almost beastly. Naturally they all scattered. No one questioned a rebel or a popular. In the presence of a popular people feared for their social being and with a rebel they feared for their physical being. Gavin was breathing heavy when he turned from the now empty courtyard and back to Serena. He could see that with each verbal blow he hit her with she seemed to bounce back while he was just becoming weaker and weaker. He wanted to ask one question Why? but he couldn't, he was afraid of the answer.
"I hate you." He said again more calmly but the words sounded so foreign.

Serena gave a cold laugh. He was so ignorant and stubborn. Gavin was the one who had called this little meeting and now he could not accept that she was moving on. She always knew how pathetic he truly was on the inside. By yelling at innocent bystanders it made him seem all the more weak.
"I think we've already established that..." she said glaring at him intensely.
Now he was really going to get it. Serena could be the queen of theatrics at times and now she was going to use it on him with full force and no mercy.
"You just can't accept it can you? You know I don't love you anymore and it's killing you! You're weak Gavin and you always will be!" she screamed.
